AML’s Commitment to a Diverse, Equitable & Supportive Work Environment
The Activity Matters Lab is fully committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and supportive environment for our research team and the larger community that we interact with through our roles. We hold ourselves to the highest standards when it comes to social justice and anti-racism and endeavor to embody these principles within our team and in our ongoing work.
Towards this aim, we have initiated anti-racism practices within our lab, and meet formally once each semester and informally, as needed, to evaluate and enhance our efforts. In the spirit of cultural humility and striving for anti-racism, we welcome input from our undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate students to inform and modify our practices. We believe that implementing and keeping ourselves accountable for anti-racist actions will ultimately support and benefit the culture within our lab as well as the populations we serve. Accountability includes developing and refining lab-based procedures that encourage regular dialogue around race and diversity, and ensuring when concerns are raised that they are addressed in a way that supports student voices and well-being. This perspective also informs how we understand the extant literature and how research may inform policy. We welcome and encourage all individuals to apply for research assistant positions within our lab. We are committed to fostering diverse perspectives in our work and the field of psychology through our research, mentorship, lab-based curriculum, and culture to appreciate the intersectionality among varying identities including but not limited to race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, ability, and socio-economic status.

Loyola University Land Acknowledgment Statement
The Loyola University Chicago community acknowledges its location on the ancestral homelands of the Council of the Three Fires (the Ojibwa, Ottawa, and Potawatomi tribes) and a place of trade with other tribes, including the Ho-Chunk, Miami, Menominee, Sauk, and Meskwaki. We recognize that descendants of these and other North American tribes continue to live and work on this land with us. We recognize the tragic legacy of colonization, genocide, and oppression that still impacts Native American lives today. As a Jesuit university, we affirm our commitment to issues of social responsibility and justice. We further recognize our responsibility to understand, teach, and respect the past and present realities of local Native Americans and their continued connection to this land.
